Spinach XXIX-3

Spinach Leafminer

Whitney S. Cranshaw

Leafminer

Identification (and life cycle/seasonal history)

The larval stages feed within leaves. The effects of feeding on plant health seem negligible, but the blotchy mines make greens less marketable.

Chemical Control

Egg laying occurs during early spring, with most damage occurring two or three weeks later. Insecticides should be applied before eggs are laid.
