(Penicillium spp.): A post emergence seedling blight of super sweet "Shrunken-2" sweet corn has become a serious problem wherever these new varieties are being grown. Seedlings become blighted one to two weeks after emergence, with a marginal scorching and dying. Examination of the hypocotyl area immediately above the seed shows a green fungal growth associated with the rotted areas.
Imazail treated seed is presently the only control for this problem. Follow label instructions. Treatment is usually at the seed conditioners prior to distribution.
