Planting certified pest-free rootstock is important in avoiding pest problems in mint production.  Mint root borer, mint stem borer, mint flea beetle, wireworm are some of the pests that can be minimized or avoided by establishing new plantings with certified rootstock.  Most states now have quarantine on importation of roots that do not meet certification standards.

Integrated Pest Management on Peppermint (IPMP 3.0), decision support program developed at Oregon State University provides information on pest and natural enemy identification, biology, sampling, and management practices is located at http://ippc.orst.edu.  There is also a publication available from Oregon State University or Washington State University, entitled, ‘A Guide to Peppermint Insect and Mite Identification and Management’.
