Curvularia leaf spot is caused by several fungi in the genus Curvularia. Little is known about these pathogens and whether they are primary or secondary to leaf spot development. Several Curvularia spp. can be isolated from diseased wheat and other grasses.
Curvularia leaf spot symptoms appear as small yellow-brown spots on leaves that expand to oblong lesions. The centers of lesions change to a brown color, but the margins remain yellow. Lesions commonly occur on leaf margins. Yield losses associated with Curvularia leaf spot are not well known in the High Plains region.
No biological control strategies have been developed for Curvularia leaf spot.
Crop rotation, sanitation of crop debris, and weed control may also help to reduce the disease. Curvularia spp. can be isolated from seeds, but the role of seed contamination in disease development is unknown.
No chemical controls are available or needed for Curvularia leaf spot.
